Why USDC gives no warning

Tether freezes through a multisig, so its first signature is public and can be seen before the freeze. Circle does not: a single blacklister address calls blacklist(address) on the USDC contract and the wallet is frozen in that one transaction. The only moment it is visible beforehand is the few seconds it waits to be mined.

We say this plainly because it limits what any monitor can promise: for USDC, a check tells you the state now; no service can reliably warn you in advance.

What a frozen USDC wallet can still do

  • Show its balance — the tokens are still there, they just cannot move.
  • Hold other tokens and ETH, which the USDC blacklist does not touch.
  • Not send or receive USDC until Circle removes it from the list.
